Abusive Anger
April 8th 2008 03:55
Anger becomes abusive when. . . .
1. You use anger to control and manipulate someone. This is you way to control by creating fear response in another person.
2. You use anger to draw attention to yourself so that you feel more significant and more powerful than they are.
3. You use anger to get your own way because you expect other people would rather give in to you than to have to endure your angry behavior and attitude.
4. You use anger to make other people feel like they did something wrong so that you get to feel more perfect than they are and more powerful than they are.
5. You use anger to keep others afraid of you and what you might do or say so they you can be in charge of them and can co anything you want without fear of reprisal.
6. You stuff it down inside of you and deny that you have any angry feelings. This is self abusive anger-turned-inward and can result in making you at greater risk for “exploding” in outbursts of temper. Anger-turned-inward also can result in illnesses such as peptic ulcer, colitis, high blood pressure, and many other psychosomatic illnesses including depression.

Nothing makes me more angry ... *chuckle* than those who abuse their anger to manipulate others.
in fact, people who make me angry for the sake of it, really make me angry...
I've learned to walk away.

I like to think that I don't let my anger become abusive. Mostly I limit my anger outbursts to screaming at other drivers from the safety of the interior of car (there are a lot of terrible drivers on the road you know!)

That sounds like my father to a T.
Right down to the fact that when his doctor told him he had high blood pressure, he blamed my brother, sister and me.
He hasn't changed his ways even though he recognises that he has no relationship with any of his children and the reason he even sees us is because of our mother. We love to visit her.
And it's not like he's blind to it either, but just refuses to change. Stupid old fool.

I always think that it is a tragedy when parents don't change their ways even in old age. I am sure that you and your siblings are super uber parents in response to your grumpy dad!

My sister never dared take the plunge.
And yeah we do take a lot of notice of our parenting skills but because we have no reference it's tough.
My father was also very very strict. Sometimes I wonder if I'm too strict, too lenient or what? Sometimes I can't recognise what's reasonable.
I think my kids are doing okay. They still hug me everyday and tell me they love me.

That is all that counts.
