Gratitude Project: Day 7: Gatherings

I love gatherings of friends and family. There is comfort food., rich with flavor (like my company) and so many fat grams and calories but for a couple of hours it just doesn't matter. Plates of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, collard greens, red beans, fried okra, fried corn, homemade lemonade and iced tea with lemon cream, coconut cream, and sweet potato pies for dessert. Gatherings like these are complete with lively conversation, music, and sure there are different ingredients every time but in the end I hope to conjour up a concoction of love and camaraderie. My son's favorite feasting prayer was always, "God we are grateful for family, fellowshop, and fun." Amen to that!

We have a huge kitchen (20'x30') with an 8'x10' island (The Urbane Lion was a professional caterer in his former life). Invariably the parties always take place in the kitchen, be it friends and/or family, with everyone pitching in with food prep and clean up. The conversations flow, and the laughter warms up the room and hearts. Food is not simply for nourishment. It is a true event.

Hi Mis,

Very long time, no visiting on my part.....sorry!

You're absolutely right, there's nothing like friends, family and food.....oh and fun. Some of my favourite family memories are of all the family (the extended family) together, sitting around the table eating and drinking too much. Loud conversations and even louder laughter. Is there anything better?

Mum's Word

I had a day just like it today...and it happened by accident.

Were supposed to meet this family at a coffee shop, but the shop was closed so it was decided to just grab some hamburgers and chips and head over to their house for some lunch. Lunch turned into dinner

7 hours later and it didn't feel like we were there for more an hour.
