Chiaroscura
August 12th 2007 03:53
One of the exercises I do with clients is very helpful to provide insight regarding how they view themselves or their perception of how others view them. I got this idea from a blog I frequent Link to Ms. Syl's site
Ms Syl stated:
If I you were only allowed one word, ever, to epitomize you, what would that one word would be.
So if you could use ONLY ONE word-to-end-all-words to describe yourself, what would it be?
My word to describe myself: chiaroscuro (Or would it be "chiaroscura," since I'm female?)
"The art or practice of so arranging the light and dark parts as to produce a harmonious effect."
And yes, I know it's not an adjective. That's allowed. Describe yourself as a conjunction, for all I care. Just has to be one word.
P.S. If you want some extra credit: What one word do you think others who know you would choose for you?
If you decide on a word for a particular person, look it up on an online dictionary/thesaurus, and send the link to that friend so he or she can click and see what word they were to you in your own personal emotional dictionary. I encourage you to try it. It's a nice little present you can give people that makes them happy (assuming you don't choose something like "fetid" for them) and it doesn't cost anything. Plus, it keeps your vocabulary and brain active, too.
Thesaurus
This word "chiaroscura" is one that has been literally used to describe me also. I won't say more at this time as I would like you guys to "play"

I don't think anyone I know who has email would appreciate this.
I may try it with a few friends face to face and when on the phone.
So where do I go from there, Mis

For you?
Licentious. adj. 1. ignoring legal restraint in sexual conduct. 2. having no regard to accepted sexual rules or standards.
In the nicest possible definition of the word, okay?
For myself? Easy.
Psychopath (Psycho) n. a person with antisocial personality disorder, manifested in agressive, perverted and amoral behaviour.

What an brilliant post, it's certainly got me thinking. I've had a couple of adjectives thrown at me this week, quirky, thoughtful, kind...I've also had other descriptions but they can't be summed up in a word, it's more of a conversation, stuff I need to work on about myself, eg I'm not assertive enough....
But I'm not sure how to describe myself. I might have to pop back in a bit.

I LOVE this post. One word is hard. I know one of the words that friends would use to describe me would be "pushover" (or something similar). I absolutely can not say no! Or possibly "joiner". I'm the girl you go to when you want someone else to come with you when you try new stuff. Tap dancing, singing lessons, pole dancing, belly dancing. You name it. I have no problem making a fool of myself.
If I had to go with one word, I think I'd say "unrestrained". You only live once, you may as well not hold back!
I know I'm going to wake up at about 2am thinking 'oh damn, I should have said that XX was the word to describe me!!'

I was actually thinking of words along the same line that Kylie was talking about, too easy-going, pushover etc...that vein of thought. I don't say no often enough!!

The word that immediately comes to mind when I think of you is...effervescent.
...bubbly, feisty, full of spirit, sparkling, full of life...
Also...honest.
You are truly honest.

I looked up the word "easy going" to find a suitable word for you. Do any of these work?
