Male Archetypes: The Warrior

September 21st 2007 02:44
Men have historically not only provided for their families, they have defended them as well. It is truly sad today that we have very few warrior archetypes for a man to look up to and model himself after. A warrior is not someone armed to the teeth perpetrating violence on others; that is a terrorist, a west tyrant. Rather the warrior is trained, ready and willing to use force to regulate violence and meet any threat to his safety and well-being and that of his loved ones. He lives as one with his inner priest, committed to uphold his individual values and the principles that guide and define his life.

Warrior skills - physical excellence not only in defense skills, but also in activities such as mountain climbing, cross country skiing, swimming, martial arts, archery, etc.; mental acuity; command of reconnaisance, strategies and tactics; and more - serve every aspect of our lives, not just in physical confrontation. The warrior today is considered to be politically incorrect and downright dangerous. Many men have rejected this archetype.

It is important, however, for the modern man to understand that warrior skills are critical ingredients in his ability to produce results in his life. They generate good health and vitality, longevity, and the strength and stamina to combat stress, deal with economic setbacks, career shifts, upheaval in family and relationships, etc. Stress grinds us down daily with its boot heel. Warriorship is not only about physical training and preparedness; it is an attitude and a stance one takes in life, in every arena of experience. Embrace the warrior. Take pride in the warrior. We will need him more than ever in the future.

I can honestly say that the Man I am in love with and married to, is a Warrior.

(I'm forwarding your Archetype series on to friends. Not only will they enjoy it but many will recognise that what I say is true.)

I very much enjoy personality type analyses and have never read this analysis breakdown. It's excellent Mis.

Looking forward to the rest.

Oh, I wish my man had not rejected the warrior....Its so hard to grow up dreaming of being a princess, getting carried away by the knight on the white horse....
Then guess what? I became the warrior princess, I ride the white horse.....I keep telling Kman he should hand over his penis and balls(not to mention that seemingly super human man strength) because I would have a better use for it. He says Id never give em back. You know what? Hes right.
That came out all wrong....I love being female, but I have a lot of male aspects. Its obvious why im in this body though....

Mis, A long time ago, you asked about words we use to describe ourselves and how others would describe us, just one word. Well, time has passed and I have only just got a 'round tuit'
More for fun than anything terribly serious because I probably have not remembered correctly, well I checked with a friend this evening.

For me, I would use the word ambition, I think others would use unfortunate.

My friend chose, that I would describe myself as intelligent as others see me and she would describe me as lively.

Love to hear from you on this, even though I may not have got it quite right.

I was intending to try it with a few friends but as I have been so tardy, just the one will have to do.

katyzzz..in sum, Me ambition, others would see me as unfortunate
My friend expect others to describe me as intelligent, she describes me as lively

Hope you can make some sense of that.

@ Kleonaptra;

A warriors mate is an equal.
A Warrior's Strength is not about having a penis and balls nor is it about constantly trumpeting how strong you are.
Everyone has a balance of female and male aspects.

Excuse me please Mis. So sorry to do this.
Anon,
Nice to see you know me so very well. From 5 lines of text youve judged me and thrown me into a category of your choosing. Hope you dont mind if I do the same to you.
In future, if you know next to nothing about a person, keep it to yourself.

Once again, sorry mis

I can honestly say that the Man I am in love with and married to, is a Warrior.
I wish for all people that they are matched with a compatile mate whatever the archetype. I am a hopeless romantic who believes that there is someone out there for everyone. Even if it is ourselves!

I am honored lovely lady. Thanks for your kind words. It is a pleasure.

Great to see you gal!
Male/female relationships can be so complicated can't they? I also have a very masculine vibe even though I have been awarded a very feminine one. I can sympathize.

Your comment got be to thinking about fairy tales in general

Little girls are raised on fairy tales. And though there are a few exceptions to this rule, the most famous, most popular Western fairy tales involve a few key ingredients:
1. The girl is good. She is beautiful. She does everything right, behaves beautifully, is passive and kind and giving, and is in every way the perfect reflection of the "ideal female."
2.She is acted upon by evil or angry forces. The dark spell is cast (this can include non-magical, cruel imprisonment/enslavement). The reason for the victimization of the girl is never in revenge for something the girl did. It's always for reasons the girl has no control over: anger at the girl's natural beauty and goodness (e.g., Snow White), anger at her family's behavior (e.g. Sleeping Beauty), anger at the fact she just exists (e.g., Cinderella).
3.She is rescued. Someone breaks the spell and frees her to live happily (ever after). Usually the enchantment is broken by some representative act of love, like a kiss. She is rescued by someone else's acknowledgement of and desire for her perfection.

Thank you Kleo for giving me the opportunity to express this.

Thanks so much for coming back to me about this.

The word "ambition" very interesting and spot on given your dedication to blogging and your virtual friendships. I believe that ambition is a very positive quality in a person. Just remember to balance that with quiet times, family, and friends!

1 a : an ardent desire for rank, fame, or power b : desire to achieve a particular end
2 : the object of ambition <her ambition is to start her own business>
3 : a desire for activity or exertion <felt sick and had no ambition

I totally see you as well as intelligent and lively.
Thanks for playing!

I don't think anyone would argue about equality here. I think that Kleo was just expressing how she feels about her role but it looks like girlfriend can handle herself!
