What Do You do When There Isn't A Swear Word Strong Enough?

May 29th 2008 03:57
Today was one of "those days".

I read this article today from the Sydney Morning Herald after a long crappy day and laughed outloud. Link to article

A swear word is the salve for all pain; the release valve for all frustration. We stub a toe, jump around on one foot and let loose a stream of invective: it's a Tourette pirouette and suddenly the pain is gone. Put it in pill form and it would sell a million.

There's also something perfect about the word "f---" and its explosive sound: the way the bottom lip curls behind the teeth, building up the pressure like a slingshot, before flinging the word forward into the world. Try that with "holy moly."

Well I would be remiss if I didn't provide healthier alternatives (none which I used today!)

• Power down: Put away the Crackberry, turn off the computer, reduce your incoming stimulus. This is not the time to confront the office bully or whiner

• Figure out who you are mad at. Don't take out our frustrations on unsuspecting co-workers. Try to isolate what is going on. What makes you think you are having one of those days? Was it the moody customer who shouted at you? Have you been inundated with work because two of your staff are off sick?

• Caca Occurs: There is a rational reason for everything. Maybe you created this situation. What is your part in this?

• Can you do anything about this? Sometimes you have to bless and release the situation or the folks involved in your "bad day". Could you perhaps have dealt with the rude customer a little better? Can you defer or delegate the workload till the absent staff return? Take the lessons from the experience now. Catastrophizing doesn't help so leave it to today. Rationalizing and being proactive will help you to smooth out the whole unpleasantness but if it fixed your entire day you wouldn’t be having one of those days in the first place.

• Sometimes you just have to take one for the team: Shake it off and get back into the game.

Well I am going to get back to my whiskey straight up now.....

VRot..thanks for the pic

Miss,

I always stop and try and think of the very best, simple word, I can use instead of F*ck... *laughs* and we often do as something simple is often all it takes to turn things around to laughter ....

I wonce heard someone say that we swear when we lack immagination ... of course you already know what comes next, don;t you?

Yes, thats right; I BLAME TV!

*chuckile*
